Born and raised in Durham, NC, I have had the privilege of watching a classic southern town transform itself from a tobacco and textile hub to what it is today - an eclectic, charming, soulful haven for artisans of all kinds. From restaurateurs and brewers to craftsmen, architects and entrepreneurs, the spirit of Durham today is defined by its independence, its history, and its slightly irreverent embrace of the old being made new again.
As I reflect on my personal experiences, I find some of the character of my native town has been a part of my journey through life. My travels have taken me to many parts of the world from India and Pakistan to Tanzania under the shadow of Kilimanjaro to France, Italy and the German Alps; giving me an appreciation of diversity and the unique beauty that can be found in every culture.
My education has taken me from undergraduate work in international relations at the University of Miami to a Master's in religious studies at Duke to a J.D. from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During that time, my husband and I moved to the country outside of Hillsborough, NC where we designed and built a French Country style farmhouse that is full of modern amenities, but remains true to the timeless architecture of Europe. In the process, I discovered a passion for design, restoration and, like Durham, making the old new again.
My husband and I currently live with our two rescue German Shepherds and three cats, as well as the occasional foster German Shepherd or foster kittens looking for their forever home. (Check out Southeast German Shepherd Rescue or Independent Animal Rescue!)
